Much Ado This Weekend: Old Roses Show, 3 School Festivals

No need to sit around on your hands this weekend in El Cerrito. The annual Celebration of Old Roses returns to the Community Center, and festivals will be held at three schools – Harding, Madera and St. Jerome.

Saturday, May 19

Harding Bicycle Festival and Used Bike Sale
10 a.m. to 2 p.m

  • Back for its second year is the Harding Elementary School Used Bicycle Sale and Bicycle Festival, sponsored by the Harding Dad'd Club. You can buy a refurbished pre-owned bike, get free basic repairs on your bike, learn to make repairs and meet members of the . See our photos from last year's festival here.

Madera Spring Carnival
11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Rain or shine the show will go on. The Madera Elementary Annual Spring carnival will include booths, games, prizes, food, entertainment and fun. It's a benefit for the Madera PTA. 

Sunday, May 20

32nd Annual Celebration of Old Roses
11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Returning to the El Cerrito Community Center is what the organizers call "the best display of rare and antique roses in the world!" Also included are kids' activities, a crafts fair and rose-themed items and food. We have photos from last year's rose show here.

St. Jerome Spring Festival
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • A rich menu of activities will be offered at the St. Jerome School Spring Festival, including live music and performers, carnival games, food, community vendors, a silent auction and a raffle. The theme this year is "Moving Forward With Technology."
