El Cerrito Police Report Eight Residential Burglaries Between April 12—18

The police blotter also includes a robbery at in the bathroom at El Cerrito High School.

April 12, 2013

 Residential Burglary – 3300 block of Belmont Ave.

 On 4/11, between 0200 and 0300 hours, an unknown suspect kicked in the front door of the home while the resident was asleep in bed. The resident screamed and scared the suspect away. The resident did not report the incident until today.

Petty Theft (Shoplift) – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza

At 1112 hours, a male suspect entered the CVS store and stole liquor. The suspect left on an AC transit bus prior to police arrival.

Petty Theft/ Brandishing a Weapon (Arrest) – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza

 At 14:25 hours, officers responded to a report of a theft at CVS where one of the suspects brandished a knife at a CVS loss prevention employee when they were asked to return stolen items. Officers located and arrested a 48-year-old woman from Richmond and a 49-year-old man from Richmond. Officers booked both suspects at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported them to the county jail.

Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd. / S. 45th St.

 Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 30 year-old Richmond woman, for an arrest warrant. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Huntington Ave.

 Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 32 year-old Vallejo man, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

Residential Burglary – 6500 block of Knott Ave.

 Between Wednesday April 10th at 1700 hours and Friday April 12th at 1800 hours, an unknown suspect entered the residence through an unlocked rear door and stole paint brushes and steel brackets.

Attempted Robbery – Advanced America, 10003 San Pablo Ave.

 At approximately 11:47 am, while walking to work at Advanced America, a male suspect told the victim to give up her purse. Fearing for her safety, the victim immediately walked inside the business and called the police. The suspect is described to be a black male adult, 5’10”, heavy set, wearing a light colored beanie and a dark colored sweater.

Petty Theft – Computer Time, 11299 San Pablo Ave.

A patron of Computer Time left her purse inside of the business and exited the store. When she returned, she discovered that her purse was missing. Time of occurrence: 1930 hours to 2000 hours.

Possession of drug paraphernalia – Cutting Blvd. / Bart Path

 Officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 40-year-old El Cerrito man for possession of drug paraphernalia. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Central Ave.

 Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 31 year-old Emeryville man, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

April 14, 2013

Petty Theft (from vehicle) – 2600 block of Tamalpais Ave.

Between Saturday April 13 at 1400 hours and Sunday April 14 at 0630 hours, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole his blue tooth device.

Petty Theft (Shoplift) Arrest (with prior theft related arrest) – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.

At 12:49 hours, officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 52-year-old woman from Vallejo after she was detained by loss prevention employees for stealing over $200 worth of DVD movies. The woman was found to have numerous convictions for theft related charges. Officers arrested the woman, booked her and transported her to county jail.

Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Warrant arrest – 11299 San Pablo Ave.

Officers conducted a suspicious vehicle stop and arrested a 55-year-old Richmond man and a 31-year-old Richmond woman for possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. The man also had a warrant for his arrest. Officers booked both people, released the woman and took the man to county jail.

Driving under the Influence, Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License – Cutting Blvd @ I-80

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 26 year-old Richmond woman, for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

April 15, 2013

Burglary (Residential) – 2700 block of Del Monte St.

Between 08:15 and 08:23 hours, four suspects entered the residence by prying open the front door. The suspects fled in a silver colored newer model Chevy sedan prior to police arrival. Officers were unable to contact the homeowners so it is unknown what, if any, items were stolen.The suspects were described as follows:

- A dark skinned Asian male 17-18 years old, 5’3”, 125lbs., wearing all dark clothing.

- A black male 17-23 years old, 5’11”, 140-160lbs., wearing a grey hooded sweater.

- A black male 17-23 years old.

- The witness was unable to describe the driver of the silver Chevy sedan.

Attempted Burglary (Residential) – 2600 block of La Honda Ave.

Between April 7 at 12:00 hours and April 11 at 09:00 hours, an unknown suspect used a pry tool and pried opened the rear door the residence. The suspect did not enter the residence.

Warrant Arrest – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.

During a traffic collision investigation, one of the involved drivers, a 37-year-old woman from El Sobrante, was found to have two warrants for her arrest. Officers arrested the woman, booked her, and took her to county jail.

Burglary (Residential) – 1800 block of Key Blvd.

At 1150 hours, the victim returned home and found that his front door was forced open. Upon entering his residence, the victim was attacked by a suspect who struck the victim in the face and fled the residence. The victim stated that nothing was taken from his residence.

The suspect is described as a black male adult, 20-30 years old, 6’2”, 175lbs., medium build, medium complexion, light colored long sleeve dress shirt, dark colored suspenders, possibly wearing a tie, and dress pants.

Burglary (Residential) – 1800 block of Key Blvd.

While investigating the above burglary, officers noticed that the residence next door appeared burglarized. Officers investigated and found that the front door was damaged and forced open. The burglar(s) stole jewelry.

Burglary (Residential) – 7200 block of Waldo Ave.

Between 1120 and 1400 hours, an unknown suspect cut a hole in the metal security gate door. The suspect pried open the rear door of the house and the door of a small cottage in the backyard. The thief stole jewelry, cash and purses.

Robbery – El Cerrito High School, 540 Ashbury Ave.

At 13:30 hours, in the bathroom, the suspect stole the victim’s phone. When the victim tried to get his phone back, the suspect attacked him and punched him. Officers detained a 16 year-old-male from Richmond and took him to juvenile hall.

Driving Under the Influence & Driving with a Suspended License – Central Avenue at Yosemite Ave.

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. During booking, officers discovered the driver had three prior DUI convictions in the last ten years and was on probation for DUI. Time of occurrence 2232 hours.

Warrant arrest - Potrero Ave at Eastshore Blvd

Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a passenger for an outstanding DUI warrant from Alameda County. Time of occurrence 23:58 hours.

Stolen Vehicle - 2400 block of Mira Vista Drive

An unknown suspect stole a 1991 Honda Accord on 04/17 between the hours of 0805 and 1825.

Driving Under the Influence - 6600 block of Fairmount Ave.

A Contra Costa County Sheriff Deputy conducted a traffic stop and discovered the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The ECPD responded and arrested a 34-year-old Santa Rosa woman for DUI. The woman was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Burglary- 1500 block of Douglas Drive

A citizen reports an unknown suspect gained entry into their residence by prying open the front door. Once inside of the residence the suspect removed miscellaneous jewelry. The burglary occurred on 04/18 between the hours of 0905 and 1238.

Attempt Burglary - 400 block of Kearney Street

A citizen reports an unknown suspect attempted to pry open their garage door. A neighbor recalled hearing a loud banging noise from the residence on 04/16 at 2310 hours. No reported loss.
