Charter middle/high school headed for Windrush?
The proposed charter middle/high school that goes before the West Contra Costa Unified school board tonight (July 10) would “most likely {be} on the former Windrush private school site,” according to the latest blog by school board member Todd Groves.
While the petition will be heard tonight, Groves reports, a decision will come at a later meeting.
Few campuses have as rich and varied a history as the property at 1800 Elm St., just a couple of blocks uphill from the Del Norte BART station. It opened in 1935 as an orphanage, the Chung Mei Home for Chinese Boys, and housed a Baptist college and a preparatory school before Windrush School took it over. The private k-8 school was forced to close its doors at the end of the 2011-12 school year because of financial difficulties.
