Tom Abate has lived in San Leandro since 1998. A native of Brooklyn, Tom came to California in the 1970s when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later attended UC Berkeley and was editor of the campus newspaper. A lifelong media lover, Tom attended the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University and worked for many years as a reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle. He is now editor of San Leandro Patch. The father of three children, Tom is an avid gardener.

Great article on thrift shopping. I've found more than a few hidden gems in many different thrift shops and appreciated your emphasis on both looking past preconceptions, and the importance of being nice to the clerks. A nice read :)

Hey Tom, I just had a quick question: is there any way to edit a blog post you've made once it's been sent to you for approval? I see that you can edit media, but not text, and I've noticed a few spelling errors I didn't catch before I sent it in.
