A memorial fund has been set up by the Tibetan Association of Northern California for an El Cerrito woman and a San Francisco man who were among the seven people killed by a gunman on April 2 at Oikos University in Oakland. Sonam Chodon of El Cerrito and Tshering Rinzing Bhutia of San Francisco were both nursing students who were fatally shot in the massacre at the small Christian college, and both were members of the local Tibetan Buddhism community, according to Thepo Tulku, a representative of the Richmond-based Tibetan Association of Northern California. The death of nursing student Sonam Chodon, one of seven people slain by a gunman at Oikos University in Oakland Monday, has shocked and grieved her friends in the local Tibetan community, who are holding a prayer ceremony tonight.
El Cerrito resident Sonam Chodon, one of seven people killed Monday morning in the massacre by a gunman at Oikos University, was remembered today, Tuesday, by saddened friends in the local Tibetan community as kind and devoted to caring for others. "The whole of our community is in shock," said Tenzin Tsedup, president of the Richmond-based Tibetan Association of Northern California. The association is holding a prayer ceremony for Chodon, 33, and the other victims at 7 p.m. tonight at its headquarters at 5200 Huntington Ave. in Richmond. Anyone is welcome to attend, Tsedup said.
