Camp Herms Cell Tower Plan Canceled by T-Mobile

A controversial proposal to erect a cell-phone tower at the Boy Scouts' Camp Herms in El Cerrito has been canceled by T-Mobile, the Boy Scouts announced.

A plan to build a cell-phone tower disguised as a tree at the Boy Scouts' Count Herms in the El Cerrito hills has been canceled by T-Mobile, according to the Boys Scouts. The plan by T-Mobile West Corp. generated strong community opposition last year and coverage in the New York Times. In the midst of the uproar, the El Cerrito City Council adopted an urgency ordinance on May 17 last year imposing a 45-day moratorium on new cell-phone towers in the city, which was later extended to a full year. On May 2 this year, the Council extended the moratorium for another year. Two Eagle Scouts Fledged at Camp Herms

Chris Bennett of El Cerrito and Brian Orr of San Pablo were awarded their Eagle Scout certificates at Camp Herms in El Cerrito.

A very long leadership journey reached its destination recently when two Boy Scouts received their Eagle Scout Certificates at Camp Herms in El Cerrito. Chris Bennett from El Cerrito and Brian Orr from San Pablo in Troop 104 received these honors at the Eagle Court of Honor on May 22. They also received the California State Assembly Certificate of Merit. One of the requirements for Eagle is leading a community service project of 100 hours or more. Chris, a senior at El Cerrito High and a third-generation Eagle Scout in his family, completed a 350-hour leadership project rebuilding the retaining wall and bench system at Tassajara Park in El Cerrito for the City of El Cerrito for his Eagle Project.  Brian's completed project consisted of …
