I like the idea of a Fogerty concert as well as the Nobel Laureate lecture series. I think there'sRead More a Heavy Metal group that started in El Cerrito. Not my music, but it would attract the 40-somethings who like--or liked--it. And Gamelan Sekar Jaya started here as well. We have a wealth of cultural resources, local authors and others.

Can we start a campaign to improve parking here? The several adjacent red zones might be betterRead More zoned for parking. And we need some restricted time spaces (like downtown Berkeley uses), to force turnover to allow patrons a space to park.
George September 11, 2012 at 02:48 am
agree with Toni on the Fogerty Concert!!

Cradle to grave, Peter. Libraries are for everyone. Everyday. ALA stats will support this statementRead More as does my personal experience. Build an active library for everyone and it will be used by everyone...not just by those able to make the commitment to attend organizational meetings.

Amen.

Just a reminder: the new library campaign committee will have its second community meeting thisRead More Saturday, August 18th at 5:30PM - a time when it is more convenient for many residents. The meeting format is similiar to the first one - see the above article - and residents would have an opportunity to voice ideas and concerns. We expect the meeting to last 1.5 hours. Representatives from the city and the County Library will be present. We hope to see you there and bring your neighbors! To receive future announcements from us, please sign up for our mailing list at http://newelcerritolibrary.org/.

Happy to know you are okay, no doubt somewhat sore, after your fall. There are good people out thereRead More and I hope the two that came to your aid see your Patch letter.
Dorothy Coakley August 18, 2012 at 03:46 pm
And an amazing number of these "good people" live in El Cerrito and Kensington. Glad youRead More are in good shape, Rich!

The work Marion, Anja, the kids and everyone else has done on this mosaic mural is beautiful! IRead More can't wait to see the newest addition.
Colin August 6, 2012 at 06:32 pm
It is truly beautiful. A wonderful addition to Harding!
Merrilea Songstad August 7, 2012 at 11:19 pm
Thank you Marion and Anja for your hard work and dedication to our school. Now Harding will shine aRead More little brighter.

CHACHA August 28, 2012 at 05:40 pm

I'm quite jealous of residents of neighboring cities that have tool lending libraries. It would beRead More wonderful if the new library facility could support a similar service.
Toni Mayer July 31, 2012 at 02:02 am
What an interesting idea, Ryan. Are the tool libraries part of the library system or separate? IRead More had thought the one in Berkeley was independent, but may be wrong about that.
Ryan L. August 1, 2012 at 04:39 pm
@Toni: I've never actually been to any of the other tool libraries, but I've heard from friends whoRead More have been to them. I believe they are part of the library system whether or not they are located on the same premises as the traditional libraries. When I looked them up online I found out that only residents or property holders within those communities are eligible to check out tools. How about sharing your Facebook page where the photos are?
Ellen Frost August 3, 2012 at 12:15 am
Dale I am the person with the photos of Huber Park during Mrs. Jakel's tenure. I forwarded them toRead More a contributor of the El Cerrito Patch when there was talk of another remodel to the park. I have recently posted photos of the dedication of the Barbeque near the swings, but below the slide. It was dedicated with a plaque, which has since been removed to Mrs Gwyn Jakel for her years as park director. Which was from 1951 until 1967 when she died. I can again provide the pictures, and the newer ones of the dedication. I lived next door in one of the houses that over looks the park on the south side. ELLEN (DOUGLAS) FROST

I tried to post at least one photo of Huber Park and the download system is not working. Yes I haveRead More pictures of the famous Merry-go-Round that was once there. Behind the wonderful Swings that Merry-go-Round was one of the best rides ever!

I am so proud of my daughter, Dawn Curtis, first in her fight with breast cancer, now as a survivorRead More and for helping to keep this relay going. To everyone that attented, Thank You for supporting the fight to find a cure for cancer. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!! Linda WArden
Dawn Curtis July 10, 2012 at 09:50 pm
I am a participant of the El Cerrito Relay and also a Survivor, I hope everyone who is reading thisRead More will want to come and participate, it is important to Fight Back Against Cancer, raise funds for Research so that others may never have to hear those terrible words.
Frank Biafore July 18, 2012 at 08:53 pm
If you or someone you love has been touched by cancer please make a donation to this worthy cause atRead More http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLFY12CA?team_id=1192923&pg=team&fr_id=36559 so that we can ALL celebrate More Magic, More Birthdays, & More Memories!

With all the interest in this vampire stuff the REd Cross should have a "Twilight" Drive.Read More Shirtless hunky male vamps for female donors, toothy vampirellas for the guys.
Christina Richards July 4, 2012 at 04:06 am
I would LOVE to donate - used to 4x a year until I lived in Europe for a while. Now the Red CrossRead More doesn't want my blood because they think I might have mad cow disease. It's a shame too - I've got the good old, common stuff that they always run low on. When is the Red Cross going to change their rules requiring people living outside the country for a while?
X July 4, 2012 at 04:09 am
I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime in the foreseeable future.

The Recycling Center is one of those small great things that springs from creative energized peopleRead More working for the common good. But it seems like every step forward is hit with the same tired arguments... perfectly quoted in the article by Charles. "..."El Cerrito is being taken over by radicals under the guise of ecology. What both cities (El Cerrito and Berkeley) are really trying to do is wreck the free enterprise system."
Dorothy Coakley June 22, 2012 at 05:14 pm
Of the things that I've been proud of about my home town, the formation of "ECology" hasRead More always been at the top of the list! It is with a touch of irony that I note that my Microsoft Word program *insists* upon reconfiguring its spelling! Hey folks...we're El Cerrito and we've always been #1 when it comes to Green!
Eric Bordax June 24, 2012 at 02:20 am
