Even a sports reporter should know better than this.....

I agree with Mike Martin. The Raiders seem to think the community owes the something vs. the Raiders…Read More reaching out to the community. They have turned a blind eye to the rude and aggressive behavior of many of their fans. We used to go to all of the home games, but stopped, once my kids reached an age where they understood what the words meant, that were being used by a lot of fans there. The Raiders need to get rid of the "Commitment to Excellence: theme and work on simply being decent.
Mike Martin February 14, 2013 at 03:34 pm
The problem with Raiders games are the fans are rough, rude, usually drinking, and it's not a family…Read More friendly event. I understand that the Black Hole has this reputation and the team certainly doesn't want to alienate these die-hard fans. But perhaps the upper deck (where these cheap seats are) could be turned into a more family friendly zone. Games for kids on the plazas behind/under the seats, food offerings that have more kid-friendly variety like pizza, pb&j, milk, and then a strict two-beer limit or something like that. The Raiders have an opportunity to build not only more fans who have less money, but fans who could now afford to bring the kids too and therefore build the next generation of fans.

Palomar,
Well said comment!
There should have been an early pass-interference call on the 49ers as…Read More well.
If the refs had been making calls in the early game, players would have had to play by the rules throughout. Instead they let there be numerous late whistles and late hits (where one guy had the runner stopped with a tackle and then other guys were allowed to hit him--very physically dangerous and with game-changing possibilities of injuries and fumbles) and also over aggressive shoving/fighting after the point (mostly started by the Ravens).
I thought the officiating was poor and changed the nature of the game.
Wasn't this almost the fewest penalty calls that these teams have EVER had? (I'd like to hear those statistics.) Did these teams change that much from their previous season play that they now weren't doing penalties? I doubt it.
Palomar Parkman February 5, 2013 at 12:39 pm
The game was very entertaining for fans of both teams. That is why you watch. The 49ers played like…Read More a young team. Flashes of brilliance and moments of stupidity. The non-calls by the refs changed the ebb and flow. Their performance was pathetic and that is supposed to be the 'best' ref crew the NFL has to offer. Bad calls and non-calls never even out. I expect to see the game played by the rules.
I am not sure what the ultimate outcome would have been if it was properly officiated but it most definitely would not have been the same game I watched. What a disgraceful display by the NFL on their biggest stage.

Actually, the land already gets a lot of use, and has, for at least three decades. When I first…Read More moved to El Cerrito in 1981, before Regency Court was developed and was just wild land, all of this area was considered to be part of the Hillside Area, even though it was privately owned. Even today, many people walk it.
Trail Trekkers, which I chair, would love to see an improved network of trails throughout our city, both in open space like this property, and using public stairs and pathways through neighborhoods.
If the city owned this property it would make it possible to go from the southern to the northern portions of the Hillside Area without detouring on streets. You'd have to cross streets sure, but not walk along them.
If you haven't been to this spot, you should visit.

Land is extremely steep and would not make a very good park. Most likely, if bought by the city, it…Read More would sit unused.

Jack Rux January 24, 2013 at 04:04 pm
Thanks Kristofer. I have feeling this will be a really good Super Bowl. The key is for the players…Read More of both teams not to get caught up in all the hoopla. A line from one of my favorite country songs "Come From the Heart" sums up what's needed: "You gotta dance like nobody's watching." Even if you there are billions. And I think the 49ers will do that enough to win.

Several factors play a role in not allowing my son to play team football:
--having a doctor for a…Read More father, who told us the injuries he had seen as a result of football, including concussions, broken clavicles, and so on;
--recent (and not-so-recent) research and studies on brain injuries as a result of football
--my own experiences as a high school student, and witnessing a classmate injured on the field during a game, and later finding out that he was paralyzed from the neck down.
With all of the other options for team sports (my son plays baseball, soccer, tennis, and swims), he will not play football. He gets it, and agrees with this decision. He has seen the research, and has no desire to play.
Eden O'Brien-Brenner January 18, 2013 at 01:37 pm
From what my son says, we are the only parents who do not allow their kids to play football. I have…Read More 2 boys at AHS and one who has always wanted to play.
