I received 4 emails from the new El Cerrito Patch (and Albany too) and they were all the same. Hope…Read More that is just a first day glitch! Otherwise it looks great!

I would put the San Ramon Iron Horse overcrossing at the bottom of the list -- there is a good light…Read More there and it is a safe crossing (so long as you use the light. I won't speak for jay-walker/riders.)
I would prioritize Ohlone safety improvements (after-school shootings & muggings).
In general, I'd use safety as the #1 factor, completion of routes as a #2 factor, and "oh wouldn't that be nice" as a lowest priority factor.

I remember playing around the Castro Adobe as a child as well as the El Cerrito Drive-In movies, the…Read More demise of the Castro Adobe and later the construction of Capwell's and the original El Cerrito Plaza. Your presentation here was reminiscent and enjoyable. Thank you.

The story I heard from one of the local politicos was that the plaque is now located on the site of…Read More the Adobe. Unfortunately, the plaque itself was relocated from another part of the present day Plaza, and misstates that the Adobe was located "nearby".
Perhaps an asterisk?

I'd be interested in inspecting this diagram in more detail, but it isn't complete, and is covered…Read More by the color key. Our street doesn't even show. Can you please post a more serviceable one?

Excuuuuse me!!! This is an obnoxious question. In El Cerrito we lack ostentation...its a lifestyle…Read More choice.

Once again, thanks for stepping up to the plate, Scott and Tom!

What a treat to watch the slideshow from the Cerrito Theater! Michael DeWitt capsulizes the history…Read More of the Cerrito, from its beginning in 1937 and its heyday, through its dark, forgotten days, to its glorious rebirth in 2006. Michael also treats us to hilarious stills from April's Classic, "Airplane!" plus scenes from coming attractions. Come to the Cerrito for the next Classic, "French Connection," on Thursday, May 9. Getting tickets in advance is strongly advised.

They don't have to tell if you are talking. You are "using" the phone and are obviously…Read More not using it hands-free.
The pertinent part of CVC 23123 says "A person shall not drive a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone unless that telephone is specifically designed and configured to allow hands-free listening and talking, and is used in that manner while driving."
It says "using." No exception for playing Angry Birds. No exception for checking your Facebook status. No exception for taking pictures. No exception for maps and navigation. And no "can't hear my lousy phone" exemption. The phone must be designed for hands-free use, configured for hands-free use and actually used hands free.
As you might expect, someone already tried the "was just using the maps" defense. They lost:
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/680893-jad13-02.html
There are tons of phone holders that attach to the windshield (be careful you attach it in a legal location), the dashboard, the AC vents, cup-holders and elsewhere and you would be hard pressed to find one that costs as much as a month's smart-phone bill to say nothing of the cost of a ticket or an accident.

I have no problem that they give me an ticket when I drive an text. But in front of Traffic light,…Read More sorry.

it may not be El Cerrito, but I work up there in the Hills and the same issue presents.
Let's say I…Read More have dual citizenship.
Example take those careening cars down Barrett, and the driver is texting or cell phoning.

I am still haunted by the memory of my three year old tripping and spilling his basket full of eggs…Read More on the grass, and a PARENT yelling, "Look! Free candy!" and grabbing his eggs (along with several other people who also took his eggs). I could not get to him in time. At the very least, stick to your kids like glue! It can be a fun experience, but is super crowded.
Local Mom March 28, 2013 at 01:13 pm
Just a heads up for parents - the event is VERY crowded, and some of the kids (and parents!) are…Read More pretty intense about getting their share of candy. Also, last year they grouped 3 y.o.s with 6 y.o.s, and our 3 y.o. got trampled - you may want to call ahead to find out the groupings before you go if that's a concern. (Our family is skipping it this year.)

What a wonderful article!
I'm so pleased that Ann Lehman was able to represent us at the 57th UN…Read More Conference on the Status of Women. Clearly she represents us well. And by "us" I mean El Cerrito, the City/County of San Francisco, and most significantly, women worldwide.
Thank you for this report, Ann. Hopefully we will be hearing more from you soon.

Thanks for raising the question of his title. We want to make sure we're accurate. The caption that…Read More was published in Chronicle appears to be in error. On his LinkedIn profile, Steven Davenport identifies his title as managing director, as reported in the main text of the AP article carried by the Chronicle and by us.
David Mann March 24, 2013 at 01:38 pm
In all fairness to the Patch, in the body of the SF Gate article Mr. Davenport is identified as…Read More "BOTEC's managing director", though it is true the caption of the photo calls him "project manager." Mr. Davenport is just multitasking!

We will be there. Justin is our kind of grad. Second performance. We are prouder'n proud of all the…Read More Gauchos. Justin is numero uno. (Thanks, for the reminder, Roddy!)

It is amazing what Justin has accomplished. If you look at all the graduate students around the…Read More country and world who have submitted their film work, how did Justin's film rise above the rest. There must be something special. This is a must see film from a former Gaucho.
