Sunset View Cemetery
510-525-5111
Sunset View Cemetery is a historic cemetery occupying a large tract of hillside land at the top of Fairmount Avenue in El Cerrito. Established in 1908 before El Cerrito was incorporated, it mainly served the population of Berkeley. It continues in full operation today serving Bay Area communities, and includes a mortuary, crematory and urn garden in addition to the cemetery. As its name implies, it offers a view of the sunset from the higher elevations of its hilly landscape. Several notable East Bay figures are buried there. Many people assume that the large mausoleum on a hill at the back of the property belongs to the cemetery, but it is the separately owned and operated Sunset Mausoleum-Columbarium.
