Many Special Events in El Cerrito This Weekend

This weekend offers several special activities in El Cerrito: the spring fair at Portola Middle School, weed-clearing at Baxter Creek, building a trail up Motorcycle Hill, a Chinese dance spectacle, and a memorial gathering for Henry Treadway.

SATURDAY

Portola Faire
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
"Fun for all ages!" says the announcement for the Portola Faire, the spring celebration at Portola Middle School where you can enjoy games, music, drama, crafts, food and a silent auction

Come Build Our First Trail
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
You can be a part of history – pitch in with the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers as they l begin building their first trail on a storied El Cerrito hillside. They will create a path up historic Motorcyle Climb Hill, site of the 1920s motorcycle races that attracted thousands of spectators.

Baxter Creek Work Party
10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
 Join El Cerrito's Green Team volunteers to combat invasive weeds choking the landscape around Baxter Creek Gateway Park and receive guidance on what plants are invasive as well as removal and pruning techniques. Tools and gloves provided.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

A Silk Road Journey: A Chinese Dance Drama by Ah-Lan Dance
3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
This annual dance gala from Ah-Lan Dance has expanded this year to two performances, one Saturday and one Sunday, featuring classical Chinese dance and dances from various minority groups across China, all highlighted by elaborate costumes and striking creative use of the advanced lighting and stage facilities of the El Cerrito High School performing arts theater.

SUNDAY


1 p.m. - 2 p.m. (Reception follows)
A celebration of the life of Henry Treadway, who died May 8 at age 20, will be held at the El Cerrito Community Center. An honors graduate of El Cerrito High, he died at UC Berkeley, where he was a sophomore. More information about him can found in the obituary published in the weekly Journal.
