Film With Famous Shot of Marilyn at Cerrito Theater

"The Seven Year Itch" – the film containing the internationally recognizable image of Marilyn Monroe standing over a grate with her white dress billowing up – will be shown one night only, Aug. 9, as part of the Cerrito Classics at Cerrito Theater.

Few cultural icons shine even more brightly in the years after their death.

But the aura around Marilyn Monroe has only increased with passing time. 

The incandescent star died under still-mysterious circumstances on August 5, 1962— fifty years ago.

Last year, Monroe’s beauty and complicated charm was uncannily captured by Michelle Williams in the hit movie, My Week with Marilyn.  Williams was nominated for an Oscar for the role.

Recognizable around the world is the image of Marilyn, the blond bombshell, in the heat of August, perched astride a vent on a New York street, glorying as the cool air billows her white dress high in the air.

That is the shot that epitomizes director Billy Wilder’s 1955 romp, The Seven Year Itch, which will play as the Cerrito Classic, one time only, on Thursday, August 9 at 7 p.m. at the .

Marilyn is totally steamy yet innocent in her role as “The Girl” – who rivets the attention of  her nerdy neighbor, white-collar worker, played by Tom Ewell.  He’s a family man, but his family is away at the seashore…and the weather…and Marilyn…is hot, hot, hot.

Incidentally, last year the actual dress Marilyn wore for this immortal scene was auctioned for more than $5 million.  Fame, indeed.

The Cerrito Classics are very popular, and you are advised to buy tickets in advance at the box office or online.
