Earth Day Events in West Contra Costa County

Even though Earth Day is April 22, some celebrations and observances will happen before then, including this Saturday, April 14.

  • Richmond Greenway Work Party & Celebration

9 a.m. to noon. Meet at 6th St. near Ohio Avenue. Planting, pruning, mulching, music, entertainment.

9 a.m. to noon. Pre-register online at www.el-cerrito.org (search Earth Day), or on Saturday morning at the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moser Lane, El Cerrito. Return to the community center for free lunch, noon to 1:30 p.m.

  • El Sobrante – Community clean-up; educational activities for kids

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at the Boys & Girls Club, 4660 Appian Way. Free BBQ after for all volunteers.

  • North Richmond Clean-up and Celebration

9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at Verde Elementary School, 2000 Giaramita Street. Trash clean-up; gardening, refreshments, activities, games and prizes.

  • Point Molate Beach Clean-up

10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Meet at Pt. Molate Beach, Richmond, off I-580 on the Pt. Molate Road. Pick up trash and marine debris.

Sunday, April 22

  • El Cerrito Recycling Center Ribbon-Cutting

4-6 p.m., Ribbon-cutting ceremony, site tours and other activities to celebrate the opening of the new El Cerrito Recycling and Environmental Resource Center, 7501 Schmidt Lane.
