A Bay Bridges District of California Garden Clubs, Inc. award was enthusiastically received for the club’s effort at the El Cerrito Open House Senior Center. This project was the subject of a Patch.com article, , by Jackie Davids on Jan 15, 2011. Now that the garden has matured, the flowers are in full bloom, and the vegetables are providing produce for the center’s kitchen, this has become a favorite place at the center. The guests love the garden, whether to visit with others, or to enjoy alone, simply watching the beauty grow around them. Indeed, the fruits of the ECGC’s labors have proven to be an extremely worthwhile effort. In addition to the photo of the Civic Beautification Award, photos of the garden as well as the members who participated in this beautification project — Kate Verhoef, Charles Daniels, Susan Wootten, Phuong Le, and ECGC President Fleda Mackie — are attached. Go for a visit — you will be impressed!

The Bay Bridges District, which has 790 members from 14 clubs and one youth group, awarded its Recognition of Service Award to Betty Coates for her outstanding service to the community. Betty is a tireless worker for the club’s activities; the editor of the club newspaper, The Thymes; and webmaster for ECGC’s website: www.elcerritogardenclub.org. Photos of Betty as well as the award are attached.
