Keeping Fit Over the Holidays

Five helpful tips to stay fit and healthy during the holiday season. Offer for a free Thanksgiving Bootcamp class.

Top Five Tips for Holiday Fitness

Getting ready for the holidays, I started to think about shopping, baking, traveling, visiting, partying and eating. With all this seasonal activity, how am I ever going to fit in my workouts?

For me, one of things I am most thankful for is my health, so I don't want to blow that over the holidays.

Here are my top five tips for staying healthy and happy over the holiday season:

1. Walk when you can

When parking at the shopping mall, park far away to get a short walk in and make sure to take stairs whenever possible. Every little bit of activity will help.

2. Don't go hungry

Always eat something healthy and high in protein before going to a party. We are asking for trouble by going to a party hungry.

3. Find a partner for support

Make a pact with friend who is attending the party. Make a promise to each other regarding how much each of you will drink and eat. Check in throughout the night and keep an eye on each other.

4. Keep temptation out of the house

If you are hosting a party, have "to go" containers available so that each guest can take home a little something, thereby leaving you with less temptation at home.

5. Exercise where and when you can

Even if your regular trips to the gym are disrupted, do a simple workout at home or while traveling. Make it a point to squeeze in a 30 minute workout at some point in your day. Try the following:

  • 100 squats
  • 10 push ups (military or on knees)
  • 50 lunges
  • 10 push ups
  • 100 high knees
  • 10 push ups

Start the first round slowly and ramp it up as you warm up. Repeat this routine as many times as you have the time and the energy. When you are done, stretch for five minutes, then give yourself a pat on the back!

Some in Richmond do not agree with your viewpoint. http://www.tombutt.com/forum/2013/1305010.htmRead More “I have never seen a public servant work harder for anything than WCCUSD School Board member Charles Ramsey worked to complete the District’s ambitious program to rebuild or upgrade every single school in the system.” I wonder how this court decision will impact WCCUSD. http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_23447723/state-high-court-denies-review-alamedas-measure-h State high court denies review in Alameda's Measure H suit The ruling in the Alameda case is expected to have far reaching consequences for school districts throughout the state as similar lawsuits over parcel tax structures have been filed in Yolo, Contra Costa and Los Angeles counties.

The WCCUSD needs to hear what thoughts citizens have on this matter. Currently, the WCCUSD boardRead More meetings have placed the Public Comment period late in the meeting, making it difficult for folks to comment. I have started a petition for modifying the agenda. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/let-us-speak-wccusd/ In Hercules, we are still awaiting a correction to the taxation process, that apparently we are due a higher percentage as explained by Councilman Romero here http://pinole-hercules.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/2012-hercules-dan-romero Wouldn't it be ironic if Mr. Ramsey get's his wish before the citizens of Hercules get theirs?
