Youth Baseball Games at Cerrito Vista Friday, Saturday

The El Cerrito Youth Baseball program is hosting a mini-tournament this weekend (including BBQ Saturday) at Cerrito Vista Park.

Editor's note: A note of appreciation to Andy Lojo, president of ECYB (El Cerrit Youth Baseball), for sending us the following information.

For the first time in many years, we are hosting a Pony level tournament here, at our own Cerrito Vista Park, this weekend. As most of you know, the Pony Division is the top level of play your kids can reach within ECYB.

These Big Boys age 13 and 14 play on a full-sized official baseball field with a 60-foot-long pitching mound and 90-foot-long base paths, just like high school, college, and major league players do.  Our regular rec season was a great success and our summer All-Star, now Fall-Ball team has done very well.  I want to officially thank two long-time, outstanding, ECYB mangers, Mike McMullen and Richard Cline, and their coaches and other Pony volunteers, who have worked very hard this year to make sure our Big Boys, get the skills and training they need to succeed at this level.  This would not be possible without the superb leadership and dedication that Mike and Richard have provided our players this year.

Please take some time this Saturday to come out and watch the Big Boys play ball, help cheer them on, and show your support for the top Division of ECYB.  We play our friends from Richmond Little League Friday, Aug. 19, at 6:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, San Anselmo, our friends from across the bay, play a double header against Richmond at 10:00 a.m., then against ECYB at 2:00 p.m.  All three teams are very good and evenly matched, so the games should be very exciting!

Our Pony volunteers are also putting on a great BBQ lunch on Saturday too, so our players, families, and supporters can have a good meal in between the games.

So please come out and show your support for your Big ECYB brothers.  There are plenty of seats still available and ECYB supporters all get in for the low cost of “Free” :).  All proceeds from the BBQ will go toward the construction of a brand new batting cage to be built at Cerrito Vista field this fall.  The final permit was issued by the City just this past week for this great addition to our program. The plans for the cage will be there for review and donations toward it’s construction costs will also be greatly appreciated.
