Football: El Cerrito High Loses Close Game To Bellarmine High

The preseason match-up featured two of the better prep football teams in the Bay Area

El Cerrito High's comeback came up a little short as the Gauchos lost a much anticipated preseason football contest to Bellarmine High, 28-25, on Saturday night.

The team from San Jose built up an early lead, but El Cerrito High cut the deficit to 28-25 at the start of the fourth quarter, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

The Gauchos had a chance late in the game to win, but they fumbled with a little over 4 minutes left and Bellarmine ran out of the clock.

The game was played at De Anza High School because El Cerrito's field is being refurbished this fall.

El Cerrito is now 1-1 on the season.

The Gauchos' next game is against Cardinal Newman High in Santa Rosa, beginning at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
