Friends of 5 Creeks Planting at Schoolhouse Creek

Help encourage natives and open Bay views near the mouth of Schoolhouse Creek, in Eastshore State Park.  We'll have work for everyone: Pull fire-prone broom bushes with those big orange levers, pickax and pry out big clumps of Pampas grass, dig fennel -- or scatter seed, plant grasses, and pick up the trash that washes from Berkeley streets to Bay beaches.

Meet at 10 AM at West Frontage Road and Virginia Extension, Berkeley (map This is the only legal turnout off the I-880 West Frontage Road between University and Gilman. But parking is very limited. If you drive, please park at Sea Breeze Deli, 598 University (just west of the freeway) and walk five minutes north on the Bay Trail along the frontage road. From the turnout, follow signs west to our meeting place. AC Transit 51B goes to Sea Breeze. This also is a great bike ride on the Bay Trail; you can cross the freeway on the pedestrian-bicycle bridge at Aquatic Park.

Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and clothes that can get dirty. Dress in layers for all weather. All ages welcome. Snacks, water, tools, and gloves provided.
