Broom Bash at El Cerrito Hillside Natural Area

El Cerrito's Hillside Natural Area boasts spectacular views, golden grasslands studded with wildflowers, and creeklets shaded by gnarled oak forests. This amazing bit of urban wilderness is threatened by fast-spreading broom, which crowds out other plants, provides no useful habitat for animals, and greatly increases the danger of wildfire.

Join Friends of Five Creeks volunteers 10 AM - 12:30 PM Saturday, August 13, as we dig, pull, and wrench out broom of all sizes.

We provide tools, gloves, snacks, water, and good company. All welcome -- no experience needed.

However, there is poison oak in the area. You can avoid it, but folks should wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and long pants and sleeves. Those who are extremely sensitive might skip this work party.

No RSVP needed -- just show up! Meet at the service-road gate on Schmidt east of Navallier, near the redwood grove and west of the recycling center. If you come late, follow the service road north, staying downhill, until you find us.
