Two El Cerritans Fast for Their Ages in Bay to Breakers

Corwin Shiu of El Cerrito finished 21st among male teen runners in the Bay to Breakers today, while Munroe Spivock of El Cerrito placed 14th in those over 80.

At least two El Cerrito runners distinguished themselves in the 100th running of the Bay to Breakers today.

Corwin Shiu placed 21st among the 826 male runners registered in the aged 13-19 category. Shiu, a senior at Albany High School, ran the 7.46-mile race in 51 minutes and 39 seconds, putting him in 474th place among all the 43,403 registered runners. The fastest runner and race winner was Ridouane Harroufi of Morocco, who ran the course in 34 minutes and 26 seconds.

In the over-80 category, Munroe Spivock of El Cerrito placed 14th out of 31 registered male runners with a time of two hours, 13 minutes and 27 seconds.

Two other teens from Albany High ran exceptionally fast in the male 13-19 category. Nolan Tonkyn finished third in 44 minutes and seven seconds. He was 112th overall. Albert Buck-Bauer finished in 44 minutes and 55 minutes, placing 5th in his category and 128th overall. Both are juniors at Albany High School.

Shiu, Tonkyn and Buck-Bauer have all been members of the Albany High cross-country team.
