El Cerrito Mountain Bike Racer Competes In World Championships

An El Cerrito teen was the first U.S. junior finisher in the mountain bicycle world championships held in South Africa this week.

Sean Bennett, an El Cerrito High School mountain bike racer, finished 28th overall despite being the 65th call-up in the race and crashing once during the competition.

During this summer, Bennett placed third in the USA Mountain Bike National Championships in Pennsylvania and fourth in the Catamount Classic ProXCT in Vermont, among other races.

He was invited to compete for the U.S. team in South Africa based on his performance in the summer racing season.
