El Cerrito High Defeats Sutter High, 34-14, In Football Season Opener

Both teams finished with 13-1 records last season

El Cerrito High scored an impressive win in its season opener by thumping Sutter High, 34-14.

El Cerrito led 21-14 at halftime. Their defense dominated the game in the second half as the visiting Gauchos pulled away for the victory.

Both teams finished last season with 13-1 records. El Cerrito High football coach Kenny Kahn told Patch he wanted face a tough opponent in their first game this season to make sure his team hit the ground running.

El Cerrito will play Bellarmine High next Friday at De Anza High's field. The Bells were 11-2 last season.
