Undefeated Gauchos Rout St. Mary's 57-6

The league-leading El Cerrito High varsity football team continued to steamroll their opponents Saturday with 57-6 victory over St. Mary's College High, giving the Gauchos a 9-0 season record and league record of 5-0.

This year's formidable Gauchos varsity football team posted another lopsided triumph Saturday afternoon with a 57-6 win over the Panthers of St. Mary's College High.

The victory at St. Mary's field comes on the heels of El Cerrito's 52-14 defeat last week of Pinole Valley High.

In the cumulative score for the undefeated Gauchos' nine games so far this season, El Cerrito has scored 450 points versus a combined 68 points for opponents.

Several Gauchos ran long-distance touchdowns Saturday, beginning with Austin Harper's 57-yard gallop on the game's first possession, the Contra Costa Times reported. Derik Calhoun scored three TDs, the newspaper said.

The Gaucho's lead the newly established Rock Division of the Tri-County Athletic League with a 5-0 record in league play and an overall 9-0 record for the season.

They play an away game against St. Patrick's Friday, the last game on the regular season schedule.
