School District to Host 1st Meeting in El Cerrito on New Funding Formula

The West Contra Costa Unified School District will host the first of six meetings on the new education funding law at El Cerrito High School, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Governor Jerry Brown’s new local education funding law was designed to create more parent engagement in public education with greater accountability from school districts.

Known as the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), it replaces the previous K–12 finance system. And with it comes questions from parents on what this means for their neighborhood schools.

West Contra Contra Unified School District (WCCUSD) officials will be hosting a series of meetings in the community to increase parents’ understanding of the opportunities and constraints in the LCFF and the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The first meeting takes place Wednesday 6:30 p.m. at El Cerrito High School.

“We’re going to make it easier to understand without sacrificing the complexity of the system,” said Marín Trujillo, Community Engagement Coordinator for WCCUSD. “If parents want to be part of this new page in education, it’s a great time to get involved.”
