Music Programs Reinstated At 29 More West Contra Costa Schools

The West Contra Costa Unified School District board of education has restored music programs to 29 more schools, according to an article in the San Jose Mercury-News.

The board made the decision Wednesday night, saying the district's financial picture has improved since the passage of Prop. 30 in November.

Last month, the board reinstated music programs to seven elementary schools that feed into Portola Middle School in El Cerrito.

The programs will be restored over the next two years. Six new teachers will be hired over the two-year period.

The music programs were cut in 2009 due to budget restraints.
