Gauchos Fall in Basketball Semifinals
The winning streak for El Cerrito High's varsity boys basketball team came to an abrupt halt in Hayward Wednesday night when they fell to top seed, Bishop O'Dowd, 50-63.
Wednesday night put a sudden stop to the winning momentum that saw the El Cerrito High Gauchos basketball team clinch a 12-0 league record when they defeated Berkeley 45-44 on Feb. 17 and then advance in the North Coast Sectional tournament by defeating Acalanes 51-49 in the quarterfinals on Feb. 24.
Top-seeded Bishop O'Dowd, the powerhouse Catholic school in Oakland, handed teh varsity boys El Cerrito team a 50-63 loss in Wednesday's semifinals game held at Chabot College in Hayward, according to MaxPreps.com.
