Berkeley High and Cal Join California Schools in Demonstrations Against Tuition Hikes and Class Cuts

East Bay Schools will march to Frank Ogawa Plaza

Thousands of protesters have launched a series of rallies to protest budget cuts, tuition hikes and police brutality during campus demonstrations.

The Los Angeles Times reports that rallies will be held at campuses all across California “as part of a national push to denounce tuition increases, class cuts and other budget issues.”

At UC Santa Cruz, students blocked the entrance to the campus so that cars couldn’t come through. In the morning, one frustrated driver plowed through the protesters.

The Mercury News reports:

Abby Edwards, 20, said she was knocked to the ground by the car, hitting her head and her knee because of the impact.

"Suddenly I'm on the hood and then on the ground," she said.

Additionally, Berkeley High School students and teachers are planning to walk out at 2:30 p.m.

There are conflicting reports about when the Cal demonstrations are to begin, but Twitter is abuzz with the news it’s currently under way at the Sproul Plaza.
