League of Women Voters Host Talk by Cal Professor on Federal Role in Education

The public is invited to join the West Contra Costa League of Women Voters for a presentation on the federal role in education by UC Berkeley Professor Rick Minthrop at in El Cerrito on the corner of San Pablo and Potrero Streets at 12:45 p.m.

Minthrop, a professor in the UC Graduate School of Education, has done extensive research on educational policies and has studied the impact those policies have had on teaching and learning in public schools.

Professor Mintrop's presentation will initiate the LWV WCCC Chapter consideration of the LWV National Study of "The Role of the Federal Government in Pre K-12 Education."

League members will hold a business meeting starting at 11:30 am, which will be followed by a discussion of the LWV National Study consensus meeting process. Materials for the study will be available. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. LWV information and materials pertaining to "The Celebration of the Centennial Victory: Wining the Right to Vote! 1911-2011" will be on display. At approximately 12:45 p.m. we will invite Professor Mintrop to take the podium. The Board of the LWV WCCC hopes you can join us for this informative event.

Members of the public may also attend the $15-a-person lunch if they wish.

Menu Choices:

  • Chicken Salad with cranberry and blue cheese
  • Western Hamburger with a side
  • Veggie/Cheese Omelet

 The cost of each choice is $15.00, which includes: Entree, drink (soda, coffee, iced tea or hot tea) tax and tip.

Background information will be given to enable the West County League study the critical issues before two consensus meetings on October 12 and October 25 at in El Cerrito from 10 a.m. to noon. The meetings are open to the public, but only the comments from league members will be recorded for the final report. More information on the consensus meetings will be available in October.
