Japanese American Internment: Lesser Known Stories

Two significant, yet lesser known, impacts of the Japanese American Internment will be presented.  Through personal stories and academic research, a panel will discuss in depth the “voluntary” and organized evacuation of 40 families to a former town in Utah.  Evelyn Nakano Glenn, former internee and UC Berkeley Professor, will share her research on the “voluntary” evacuation.

The panel will also discuss the mass abduction, forcible deportation and internment of 2,264 men, women, and children from 13 Latin American countries to the U.S. for future hostage exchange with Japan.  The documentary film, “The Art Shibayama Story,” will be shown.

This presentation is part of California Reads in West County; funded by CAL Humanities.
