ECDC May Speaker -- Dr. Beshara Doumani

The May meeting of the El Cerrito Democratic Club will feature Dr. Beshara Doumani, Professor of Middle Eastern history at UC Berkeley, who will speak on "Current Developments in the Middle East" - certainly one of the most compelling topics of the last several years.  Professor Doumani is the author of three books and numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics "all of which," he continues, "revolve around the ethics and politics of writing people into history."

Less than six months elapsed between the unexpected beginning of the Tunisian revolution and the satisfaction brought by the U.S. Navy's successful raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan. Yet those six months may have been the most earthshaking, for the Middle East, since the 19th century.  All members and interested guests are urged to attend this presentation!  The meeting will be convened at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, in Fellowship Hall, El Cerrito United Methodist Church, 6830 Stockton Avenue (at Richmond Avenue), El Cerrito, CA 94530. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and light refreshments will be available, as well as pizza for $4 per person.
