Gauchos Romp to 62-7 Win Over San Lorenzo in Season Opener

The El Cerrito High varsity football season began with spectacular victory Friday night as the Gauchos crushed the San Lorenzo High Rebels 62-7.

It didn't take long for the El Cerrito High football team to show its mettle in the season opener against the San Lorenzo Rebels Friday night.

In the first quarter of the home game, El Cerrito quickly took the lead with two touchdowns by senior Marshon Ardoin. Another touchdown by junior Jalen Harvey brought the score to 24-0, showing the team's rigorous summer training and workouts were paying off.

The second quarter saw more Gaucho touchdowns and still nothing for the Rebels. By half-time the score was 46-0.

During the second half San Lorenzo played a better defensive game, giving up only 16 points. The fourth quarter yielded the Rebels first and only touchdown, bringing the final score to 62-7.

The score recalled the 55-6 Gaucho win over the Rebels last year, when El Cerrito posted a record of 7-3-1 and finished second in the ACCAL (Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League). They appear headed for another winning season this year in the new TCAL (Tri-County Athletic League) Rock Division.
