Weekend BART Delays for Rest of 2012

BART announced that seismic safety and track maintenance work will cause weekend delays in train service in four areas, including the Transbay Tube, for the rest of this year.

BART riders should be prepared for delays in weekend service in four locations – including the Transbay Tube – until the end of December, the transit agency said Tuesday.

The delays are due to seismic safety work and needed track maintenance, BART said.

The Transbay Tube work includes "critical emergency power supply improvements between Embarcadero and West Oakland stations," BART said.

The Tube work will occur during first two hours of service on Saturdays and Sundays, during which time only one track will be in service, the agency said.

"Service through the Transbay Tube during those hours may experience a 10-15 minute delay between Embarcadero and West Oakland stations," according to BART. "We will do everything possible to keep the delays to a minimum."

BART apologized for the inconvenience and said the work is taking longer than expected.

"The work required takes more time than our regular overnight maintenance window allows and is taking longer than originally expected," the agency said. "We have chosen this time in an effort to cause the least inconvenience to our customers. We apologize for the delay."

The other areas where delays are expected to occur are between the South Hayward and Fremont stations, between Balboa Park and Daly City, and between Lafayette and Concord.

Further details on each can be found the following BART web pages:

Well, those are low-traffic hours. And I'm pretty sure we East Bay BART lovers would prefer that the transbay tube be OK during the next Big One.
Will the trip-planner feature include those delays, if someone is planning (for example) to go to SFO on a weekend morning?

Lots of people will be going to SF for holiday shopping over the next six weeks! This could get ugly!

Hi Kathy, I posed your question to BART. Here's what I got back:
During the first two hours of Saturday and Sunday service when BART does its power supply upgrades in the Transbay Tube, customers may want to use BART's "Real Time Departure" page rather than the "Trip Planner." Delays in that two hour window on early weekend mornings may only be 10-15 minutes, but the Trip Planner may not reflect those minor scheduling differences. Here is the link to that page: http://www.bart.gov/schedules/eta/index.aspx

Thanks, Alex!
Eyleen -- probably even dedicated holiday shoppers won't be going to SF so very early on weekends. Sunday BART service normally starts at 8 a.m.; Saturdays at 6 a.m. The stores are not open that early! (e.g., Macy's at Union Square opens at 11 this Sunday; 9 this Saturday.) I'm not very into the holiday shopping overload thing. Hoping to find those gifts I do buy mostly locally.

Some in Richmond do not agree with your viewpoint. http://www.tombutt.com/forum/2013/1305010.htmRead More “I have never seen a public servant work harder for anything than WCCUSD School Board member Charles Ramsey worked to complete the District’s ambitious program to rebuild or upgrade every single school in the system.” I wonder how this court decision will impact WCCUSD. http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_23447723/state-high-court-denies-review-alamedas-measure-h State high court denies review in Alameda's Measure H suit The ruling in the Alameda case is expected to have far reaching consequences for school districts throughout the state as similar lawsuits over parcel tax structures have been filed in Yolo, Contra Costa and Los Angeles counties.

The WCCUSD needs to hear what thoughts citizens have on this matter. Currently, the WCCUSD boardRead More meetings have placed the Public Comment period late in the meeting, making it difficult for folks to comment. I have started a petition for modifying the agenda. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/let-us-speak-wccusd/ In Hercules, we are still awaiting a correction to the taxation process, that apparently we are due a higher percentage as explained by Councilman Romero here http://pinole-hercules.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/2012-hercules-dan-romero Wouldn't it be ironic if Mr. Ramsey get's his wish before the citizens of Hercules get theirs?
