The exhibit includes 14 paintings, including “Mother Oak,” which was recently honored by the Pastel Journal, the international magazine devoted to the promotion of all pastel artists. Over 3,000 entries from nine countries participated in the annual Pastel 100 contest.

In reference to his work in this exhibit, local artist Dug Waggoner said, “My approach to painting is to observe nature as I respond to it and reinterpret my observations creating an image of my own choosing that pleases me and hopefully the viewer.

"It is my constant challenge to see and to be aware of my surroundings and respond to the observations of light, shape, shadow, atmosphere and color I find in any given scenario. The end result is my personal statement to an abstraction of reality in the medium of Pastel.”

Mr. Waggoner is a member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and also volunteers for the Contra Costa Civic Theater doing set construction and as a scenic artist. He lives in El Cerrito.
