Jan Bridges Files – 3 Now in Council Race for 3 Seats

Former City Councilwoman Jan Bridges filed her nomination papers for El Cerrito City Council race Tuesday afternoon, joining incumbent Greg Lyman and former Councilman Mark Friedman in the election for three seats.

Now that former City Councilwoman Jan Bridges filed her nomination papers for the El Cerrito City Council election, three candidates have declared they're running for the three seats up for grabs on the five-member El Cerrito City Council.

Bridges, who took out nomination papers on July 17, filed the papers Tuesday afternoon. Two other candidates have already filed – one-term incumbent Greg Lyman and former City Councilman Mark Friedman, who served on the council from 1997 to 2004.

Bridges, who served a one term in 2004-08, will need to have the signatures on her nomination papers verified by the Contra Costa County Elections Division, according to City Clerk Cheryl Morse.

Friedman and Lyman filed their papers Friday and were qualified for the ballot Monday, according to the city clerk's office.

The deadline for non-incumbent candidates to file is 4 p.m. today, Morse said. No one else has taken out nomination papers.

The deadline for incumbents to file was Aug. 10. Mayor Bill Jones, who is finishing up his second term, and one-term incumbent Ann Cheng did not file.

Council elections are held every two years for the staggered four-year terms.
