El Cerrito Earth Day Work Parties and Lunch

EL CERRITO PLANS TO “CELEBRATE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP” WITH EARTH DAY WORK PARTIES AND LUNCH

El Cerrito, CA:  The City of El Cerrito is planning to honor Earth Day on Saturday, April 21, 2012. The theme for El Cerrito’s event this year is “Celebrate Environmental Stewardship.”

The City of El Cerrito welcomes volunteers to help remove invasive broom from the Hillside Nature Area or along a portion of Moeser Lane, pick up litter on the Ohlone Greenway, tidy parks, and promote a healthy environment in El Cerrito on Saturday, April 21, starting at 9:00 a.m. at various locations around El Cerrito.

Like previous years, the City expects hundreds of volunteers to participate. Individuals and groups can register in advance online at www.el-cerrito.org/earthday. On-the-day registration is also available on the morning of the event at the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito CA 94530. All ages are welcome.

Following the work parties, the City is hosting a free lunch at the El Cerrito Community Center from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for all work party volunteers and their families. Lunch attendees will receive a free 2012 Chinook book full of valuable local coupons compliments of , as well as be able to pick up a free plant/seed/seedling and participate in a hands-on "creative re-use" art activity.

In an effort to reduce the amount of waste generated at the event, the City is asking attendees to bring their own water to their worksite and to consider walking, biking, or carpooling to their worksite and the volunteer appreciation lunch.

The City of El Cerrito’s 2011 Earth Day celebration is supported by donations from local businesses including , , Subway, and other local businesses and individuals.
