DIY Art, Garage Sales Galore, Kensington Parade, Book Sale, Chiefs Panel — Big Weekend

There are many opportunities for rewarding outings in El Cerrito and Kensington this weekend: a do-it-yourself art festival, the citywide garage sale, a parade and a book sale in Kensington, and a panel with three police chiefs, including El Cerrito's.

This weekend offers an unusually abundant cornucopia of events in El Cerrito and Kensington, as can be seen on our events calendar. Here are a few highlights:

Saturday, Oct. 15

Do-It-Yourself Arts Fair: El Cerrito's Arts and Culture Commission has come up with a creative way to celebrate California Arts Day by showcasing local artists and providing fun, hands-on workshops for kids and adults.

Citywide Garage Sale: It's become a twice-a-year tradition — large number of garage sales all on the same day in El Cerrito. At least two of them are for good causes — the El Cerrito High Speech & Debate Team Garage Sale/Bake Sale Fundraiser and the El Cerrito Preschool Cooperative Yard Sale. You can plan your route in advance by downloading the listings and locations map here and printing it from your computer.

Kensington Fall Parade and Picnic: The annual fall parade led by the El Cerrito High marching band starts at noon at on The Arlington, and the picnic with barbecue and live bands starts at 1 p.m. at the .

Kensington Library Book Sale: Potential book treasures, including first editions and signed books, as well as CDs, audio tapes and DVDs are to found at the annual fall book sale.

ACLU, El Cerrito Police Chief, and Community Forum: A community forum with three police chiefs — Sylvia Moir of El Cerrito, Michael Meehan of Berkeley, and Chris Magnus of Berkeley — and the ACLU to discuss how police and the ACLU can work together to protect both citizens and their rights.
Place: Albany Senior Center, 846 Masonic Ave., Albany
