BART Work Disrupting Ohlone Greenway Starts in January
BART's seismic strengthening of elevated track support columns, necessitating temporary detours and disruptions along Ohlone Greenway, will start in January in El Cerrito. Work at the BART Plaza and del Norte stations already is underway.
The long-awaited of the elevated Bay Area Rapid Transit tracks through El Cerrito that will close parts of the Ohlone Greenway during construction will begin in January, BART has announced.
The first sections that will endure dust and noise, bicycle and pedestrian detours, and lost parking will be at the north end from Cutting Boulevard to San Pablo Avenue, where the BART tracks cross over the thoroughfare, and from Fairmount Avenue to Brighton Avenue in Albany. The northern section is scheduled to be completed by next August, with a September completion date the goal for the El Cerrito/Albany portion.
A section from Potrero Avenue to Hill Street, on the south side of the BART El Cerrito del Norte station, will be upgraded beginning in February with completion planned by August.

Work dates have yet to be set for four other El Cerrito sections: Central Avenue to Stockton Avenue, Stockton to Portola Avenue, Portola to Manila Avenue, and Manila to Potrero.
The BART seismic retrofit construction affecting Ohlone Greenway originally was to begin in 2009 but has been delayed until now. Work on the BART El Cerrito Plaza station began in July 2010, and upgrades of the del Norte station started in August. The entire project is projected to be done in 2015.
