BART Offering New Year's Eve Service Until 3 am

Trains from the Richmond line won't stop at the Embarcadero Station after 8 pm

BART riders heading into San Francisco to celebrate New Year's Eve can take advantage of service extended to 3 am, but won't be able to use the Embarcadero station after 8 pm.

BART says its trains will skip stops in some downtown San Francisco stations  to ease overcrowding from the annual San Francisco fireworks show along the Embarcadero. The agency also says on its website that there will be increased presence throughout the system of BART staff and police from multiple agencies.

For riders traveling from the two El Cerrito stations and elsewhere on the Richmond and Pittsburg/Bay Point lines into San Francisco, the change means no stops at the Embarcadero Station after 8 pm. Those trains will make all other stops.

Riders from those two lines headed to the San Francisco fireworks show on the Embarcadero are asked to exit at Montgomery Street Station. Montgomery Street Station is located about one city block from Embarcadero Station.

After the fireworks end around 12:20 a.m., BART says, riders should return to Montgomery Street Station to catch trains back toward Richmond and Pittsburg/Bay Point because those trains will not stop at Embarcadero Station.

Trains coming to San Francisco from the Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont lines will instead skip the Montgomery Street Station, also  beginning at 8 pm and on the return trip as well. Those riders are being directed in and out of the Embarcadero station.

Trains from SFO/Millbrae and Daly City will stop at all stations but riders are being asked to use the Montgomery Street Station after the fireworks to help ease overcrowding.

BART says there will be extra trains during the busiest time after the fireworks end. Riders are encouraged to buy round trip tickets to avoid lines for the return trip.

BART considers Friday, Dec. 31  a normal weekday and says it will enforce all parking regulations.  New Year's Day is a BART parking holiday.

On New Year's Day, BART will run on a holiday schedule, with service beginning at 8 a.m
