BART Eyes Later Hours for SF-Richmond Line

Because of increased ridership, BART is considering extending the weekday operating hours of the San Francisco-to-Richmond line by an hour, until 8 p.m.

BART is considering adding an hour of service on weekdays to the Daly City-Richmond line, meaning direct service between El Cerrito and San Francisco would continue until 8 p.m.

The extended hours are included in the budget proposal for BART's 2013 fiscal year beginning July 1, according to BART spokesman Jim Allison.

The line currently stops operating at 7 p.m. on weekdays, obliging passengers between San Francisco and Richmond to transfer in Oakland. The proposal, if approved, would add four additional trips in each direction, Allison said.

The added hour is being proposed to accommodate increased ridership on the line, he said.

The proposal is among several presented to the BART board at its Thursday meeting. Others include increased complementary bus service in the East Bay and long-range plans for added stations and express service, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The board is scheduled to vote on the new budget on June 14, Allison said.
