Woman Sexually Assaulted by Panhandler

Police arrested Isaac Ybarra in connection with the alleged attack.

A panhandler was arrested in Richmond last week for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman who gave him money, a police spokeswoman said today.

The victim was walking on Cutting Boulevard near Carlson Boulevard around 6:30 a.m. Thursday when a man approached and asked her for cash, according to Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.

The woman gave the man some money and the panhandler followed her and tried to engage her in conversation. The woman walked away and the suspect grabbed her from behind, forced her to the ground and sexually assaulted her, Abetkov said.

She said a nearby business owner who heard the victim screaming for help called police with a detailed description of the suspect. Officers arriving in the area were able to find the man hiding behind a car on South 34th Street.

A police K-9 bit the man, later identified as 30-year-old Isaac Ybarra, and he was taken into custody. The victim was taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
