Weekend Police Blotter: Suspected Elder Abuse, Two Residential Burglaries

The following items have been selected and written by the El Cerrito Police Department

October 25 


Stolen Vehicle, Evading Police – San Pablo Ave. at Tehama Ave. 
Officers located a stolen Mazda RX-7 traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue at Tehama Avenue. While they followed, the vehicle attempted to evade officers by turning onto Tehama Ave. and then onto San Benito. Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit but lost sight of the vehicle as it entered Interstate 80, at Carlson Blvd., into heavy traffic. Richmond Police Officers located the vehicle but also quickly lost sight of it. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 9800 block of San Pablo Ave. 
Officers found a 1997 Honda Civic that was reported stolen to Oakland PD on Oct. 25. 

Public Intoxication – 9900 block of San Pablo Ave. 
Officers were dispatched to the area for a subject pushing patrons in a bar. Officers contacted a 29-year-old El Cerrito woman who was severely intoxicated and would not follow officers’ instructions. The officers arrested the woman and transported her directly to county jail. 

Transportation of Controlled Substances, Possession of Controlled Substances for Sale – Central Ave. at Lexington Ave. 
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and contacted the driver, a 43-year-old Pacifica man, who admitted to having methamphetamine in the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and located over ¾ of an ounce of methamphetamine, in individual baggies. Officers booked the suspected drug dealer and sent him to county jail. In this incident, the suspect was driving a 2007 BMW owned by an El Cerrito resident. 

October 26 

Possession of Controlled Substances and Drug Paraphernalia Arrest – Potrero Ave. at Eastshore Blvd. 
At approximately 8:52 a.m., an El Cerrito police officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 29-year-old Richmond man after they found him in possession of 1.47 grams of methamphetamine, hypodermic needles and a meth pipe. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released. 

Elder Abuse Arrest – Wells Fargo parking lot (9800 San Pablo Ave.) 
At approximately 2:58 p.m., El Cerrito police officers responded to a report of a woman assaulting an elderly woman in the parking lot of the bank. Officers located the 91-year-old victim from Berkeley and the woman’s caregiver, a 70-year-old Hercules resident, sitting inside a vehicle. Witnesses told officers that the caregiver was hitting her patient. The officers arrested the caregiver and called an ambulance to transport the victim to the hospital. After booking, an officer took the suspect to county jail. 

Petty Theft Arrest – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
At approximately 11:36 a.m., El Cerrito police officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 26-year-old Richmond man, after he entered Safeway, drank a red bull and left without paying for the drink. Officers booked the man and then cited and released him. 

Warrant Arrest – Carlson Blvd. at Plumas Ave. 
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 45-year-old Richmond woman, for an outstanding warrant. The woman was transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Residential Burglary – 2300 block of Mono Ave. 
An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence by prying open a rear sliding glass door. Once inside, the suspect stole jewelry from the house. The crime occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. 

Driving under the Influence, Vehicle collision – S. 56th St. at Potrero Ave. 
An officer saw vehicle collide into a parked car on S. 56th Street. When officers contacted the driver, they found that he was under the influence of alcohol. The driver, a 34-year-old El Cerrito man, was placed under arrest for DUI. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober relative. 

October 27 

Petty Theft (Shoplift) Arrest – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
At 12:11 p.m., an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of an 18-year-old man from Fairfield after he was caught stealing alcohol and sardines by Safeway Loss Prevention. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation. 

Petty Theft (Shoplift with Prior Theft related Charges) Arrest– Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
At 2:11 p.m., an officer arrested a 57-year-old man from Richmond after he was caught stealing laundry detergent by Safeway Loss Prevention. The man’s criminal history showed that he had been previously arrested for numerous theft related incidents. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Possession of a controlled substance for sale, Transportation of controlled substance – Carlson Blvd. at Imperial Ave. 
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 28-year-old Richmond man, and his passenger, a 38-year-old Richmond man, for possession of methamphetamine for sale and transportation of methamphetamine. Officers utilized K9 Koda for a search of the vehicle. Although the men tried to hide their illegal drugs, Koda found them. Officers booked the men at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported them to county jail. 

October 28 

Residential Burglary - 6100 block of Barrett Ave. 
An unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence by prying open a rear sliding glass door. The suspect(s) conducted a moderate ransack of the residence, taking jewelry. The crime occurred sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. 

Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property – 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
Officers arrested a 25-year-old Vallejo man and a 45-Vallejo man for being in possession of a controlled substance and several articles of identification belonging to other people. Officers also located glass pipes, commonly used to smoke controlled substances, on the men. Officers booked the men at the El Cerrito Jail and released them, pending laboratory testing.
