Victim of 580 Shooting Identified

A man who was shot and killed while driving on Interstate Highway 580 in Richmond on Saturday afternoon has been identified.

Deonta Broussard, 31, of San Francisco, was struck by gunfire from a passing car while driving his blue Ford SUV on eastbound Highway 580 near Regatta Boulevard around 12:40 p.m., according to Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill.

Witnesses reported seeing shots fired from a car into the victim's car, which then slammed into the roadway's center divider and overturned.

The deadly crash shut down all eastbound lanes of the freeway as both California Highway Patrol and Richmond police searched for suspects and collected evidence.

Hill said police have not identified a suspect and are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.

The killing is believed to be the fifth homicide in Richmond this year, he said.
