UPDATE: Albany Man Nabbed by El Cerrito Police Following Theft at Plaza

El Cerrito police arrested a suspect in connection with a theft this morning from the CVS Pharmacy in El Cerrito Plaza.

El Cerrito police this morning, June 21, arrested a 24-year-old Albany man in connection with a theft from the CVS Pharmacy in El Cerrito Plaza, according to El Cerrito police Detective Corporal Susan Garman.

Police went to the Plaza about 9:40 a.m. in response to a report of a theft at CVS, Garman said.

Several CVS employees and Plaza security personnel chased the suspect, Garman said. El Cerrito police quickly arrested Yared Bebe Tsegaye of Albany in connection with the crime, she said.

"The subject was located in the 1100 block of Brighton Avenue and taken into custody," said El Cerrito police Capt. Michael Regan.

Another theft occurred at the same pharmacy the day before. On Monday, police arrested a 49-year-old Richmond man in connection with a theft at the Plaza CVS, which had been reported at 9 a.m.

The suspect in the Tuesday case was transported to the Contra Costa County jail in Martinez pending filing of charges by the county District Attorney's office, Garman said.

El Cerrito police earlier said the Tuesday theft had been reported at the Lucky supermarket.
