Two Alleged Shoplifters Arrested at El Cerrito Plaza

A 41-year-old El Cerrito man and a 36-year-old San Francisco man were detained by store security and taken to jail by police in separate incidents of suspected shoplifting Friday afternoon at El Cerrito Plaza, El Cerrito police said Monday.

Two men who were detained by store security personnel in separate incidents at El Cerrito Plaza Friday afternoon were arrested by police for investigation of shoplifting, El Cerrito police said Monday.

In the first case, El Cerrito police were summoned about 2:57 p.m. to a Plaza business where store security had detained a 41-year-old El Cerrito man "for attempting to steal a bottle of liquor," police said in a brief news release. The business was not identified. 

In the second case, El Cerrito police were dispatched about 4:30 p.m. to a Plaza business where security personnel had detained a 36-year-old San Francisco man "after he exited the store with merchandise," according to a separate short news release. The release did not identify the business or the merchandise.

Both men were booked and taken to the county jail in Martinez, police said.
