A northbound car driven by a 19-year-old man on San Pablo Avenue near Fairmount Avenue crashed into the car in front of him early Wednesday evening, propelling the struck car into the vehicle in front it, El Cerrito police said.
The driver, a resident of Richmond, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence of alcohol, said El Cerrito police Sgt. Lauren Caputo.
Police received the report of the accident at 6:36 p.m., Caputo said.
The arrested man suffered minor injuries and was taken briefly to a local hospital for treatment before being transported to the county jail in Martinez, Caputo said. No one else sustained apparent injuries, Caputo said.
A witness to the arrest told Patch that the suspect was "lead away periodically roaring loudly."
Caputo said the crash occurred just past Fairmount near the front of Stand-Up Comics at 10020 San Pablo Ave.
It's the same block where a six-car chain reaction crash occurred in front of the Cerrito Theater in May, also in the northbound lanes. The driver was arrested in that incident too.
