Teen Arrested After Fight in Ross Parking Lot

Police say the teen was combative as they tried to arrest him.

By Bay City News—

A 14-year-old boy was arrested in El Cerrito last week after he allegedly beat someone, then tried to bite and punch officers while he was being taken into custody, police said.

Police responded to a report of a fight in the parking lot of the Ross department store at 2000 El Cerrito Plaza around 2:20 p.m. on Feb. 12. As officers were arriving, three teens apparently involved in the fight started running, police said.

An officer was able to detain two of the teens, both 14-year-old Richmond residents. The third was not apprehended. Police said one of the teens tried to punch the officer as he was being taken into custody. He then tried to bite a second police officer.

Investigators learned that the teen had also allegedly punched and kicked another teen more than a dozen times during the fight, according to police. He was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to Juvenile Hall in Martinez.

The second teen arrested in connection with the fight was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released to a guardian.
