Shooting Victim Critical Following Surgery

A 25-year-old man remains in critical condition Tuesday after being wounded in a shooting in Richmond on Monday evening, a police spokeswoman said.

Police said the shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 400 block of Bissell Avenue.

Officers arrived on the scene to find a large crowd of people and the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including one in the chest, according to Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.

The man was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition.

Abetkov said police have not identified a suspect in the shooting, which is believed to have been a drive-by.

Bystanders at the scene were uncooperative with investigators, who are continuing to question possible witnesses, she said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Richmond police at (510) 232-1214.

Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call (510) 232-TIPS.
