Robberies Declining, but Burglaries on the Rise

In the last year, El Cerrito has seen less robberies but more property crimes compared to 2012.

The El Cerrito Police Department is reporting a decline in all robberies for 2013 which include use of firearms, strong arm and other weapons. However, the city is seeing a growing number of both residential and commercial property burglaries in the last year, with the majority occurring during daytime.

Lt. Stephen Bonini says what the police department is seeing is cyclical and a current reflection of lower property crimes across the region and state.
