Richmond Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Identified

Rene Umana-Barrera, 28, died last week after being involved in crash on Highway 4 in Concord.

A motorcyclist killed in a crash near state Highway 4 in Concord last week has been identified as 28-year-old Rene Umana-Barrera of Richmond, a Contra Costa County coroner's deputy said today.

Umana-Barrera was riding his 1991 Suzuki motorcycle east on Avila Road near Willow Pass Road when he crashed into a 1991 Honda Prelude making a U-turn, according to California Highway Patrol Officer John Fransen.

Umana-Barrera was taken to John Muir Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Fransen said the driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old Pleasant Hill man, was uninjured.

CHP investigators are still investigating the deadly collision and the possibility that speed played a factor, Fransen said. Anyone who witnessed the crash has been asked to call the CHP at (925) 646-4980.
