Registered Sex Offender Caught With Teen Girl In Car

El Cerrito Police Officer is being credited with possibly preventing a sexual assault.

El Cerrito Police arrested a registered sex offender after he was found in a car with a 16-year-old Antioch girl near a motel on Thursday.

A police officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop at 11:38 p.m. and contacted the driver, a 46-year-old male from Antioch. The officer conducted a records check and learned that the man is on parole for sexual assaults committed against a minor.

The suspect allegedly bought alcohol for the girl and drove her to a motel on San Pablo Avenue in Richmond. The two left the motel to get more alcohol when the officer stopped them. The officer took the girl into protective custody so she could be picked up by her mother later that morning.

The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
